Intro
Looking for free fill dirt in Oka to level your yard, fill in an old pool or stabilize a driveway? Good news: surplus excavated soil from nearby sites (Oka village, Route 344, areas near Oka National Park and the beach) is waiting for a taker. Fewer kilometres, lower costs, more efficiency, and your coffee doesn't get cold.
Why get fill dirt in Oka
- Free or paid: Terreadonner has both. Ask questions and compare before you accept.
- Local reuse: we put existing material to work → fewer trucks, fewer emissions.
- Smarter soil: topsoil, sandy or clay depending on the job → better drainage, water retention and soil life (worms work for free).
Where to find a fill dirt drop-off (method and areas)
- Use a local platform with a map and filters (soil type, volume, distance).
- Watch: Route 344 / chemin d'Oka, around Oka National Park and the beach, and new residential developments toward Pointe-Calumet and Saint-Joseph-du-Lac.
- Turn on alerts by area: the right listing finds you while you're getting the wheelbarrow out.
Nearby cities: Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, Deux-Montagnes, Pointe-Calumet, Saint-Placide, Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac and Mirabel (Saint-Benoît).
Regulations: the essentials
- A municipal permit may be required depending on the height of the fill and the area covered. Thresholds vary from one city to another.
- Ask where the soil comes from and set your requirements before you accept.
- Plan for grading and drainage (otherwise, a surprise pond after the storm — and not Lake of Two Mountains).
📍 Check with the Municipality of Oka's urban planning department and the MELCCFP rules before receiving or dropping off soil.

Mini-scenarios (real-world, Oka edition)
Receiver - 95 m³ to raise and drain (near Route 344)
Nadia finds sandy fill 5 km away. Three round trips by dump truck, compacted in layers. Material: $0. Savings vs. buying + transport: about $700–1,000. The slope sends water toward the street, not the basement; boxes saved, peace restored.
Excavator - 180 m³ after foundations (Oka ↔ Pointe-Calumet corridor)
Tight window. Listing posted at 7 a.m. (clay/sand, side access, pickup on site). Two receivers 8–12 km away split the volume. Site cleared by 4 p.m., no dumping fees. Next day's pour? On time, no drama.
Quick tips (4 useful habits)
- Pick the right soil: topsoil for lawns and gardens; sandy soil to stabilize; clay = caution (drainage!).
- Access and hours: width/height, tight turns, whether a loader is on site.
- Compact in layers (20–30 cm): otherwise, a settling "gift" in the spring.
- Water management: a slight slope, drains if needed. Water always takes… the path you didn't plan for.
FAQ - Fill dirt in Oka
Can I really get dirt for free?
There are free offers and paid offers. Ask questions and set your requirements before you accept.
Do I need a permit?
Often, once you go beyond a certain thickness or area. Check with the Municipality of Oka's urban planning department.
Is the soil suitable for a vegetable garden?
Look for screened topsoil. "Mixed" soils (sand/rocks) are better for rough fill.
Is delivery possible?
Depends on the listing. Otherwise, pickup on site (trailer/dump truck).
I'm a contractor: can I give away my surplus?
Yes. The more precise the listing (type, volume, access, time slots), the faster it goes.
